Relationship between Decimals and Percents
Decimals to Percents: Learn
Do the following steps to convert a decimal to a percent:
- Multiply the decimal by 100 (Move the decimal point two places to the right)
- Label the answer with the % sign
For example: Convert 0.83 to a percent.
- Multiply 0.83 * 100 = 83
- 83%
This procedure works because the word percent means "by hundredths" and multiplying decimals by 100 moves the hundredths place into whole percents.
