Multiply Fractions: Learn

To Multiply Fractions:

Multiply the numerators of the fractions
Multiply the denominators of the fractions
Place the product of the numerators over the product of the denominators
Simplify the Fraction

Example: Multiply 2/9 and 3/12

9 * 12

That last step can be tough, simplifying a fraction with big numbers. To keep the numbers small and easy to work with, you can cancel factors before multiplying. It's the same as simplifying a fraction, but you can choose the numerator and denominator of either fraction.

Example: Multiply 2/9 and 3/12, but first simplify the problem by canceling a factor of 3 out of the 3 and 9, and also canceling out a factor of 2 from the 2 and 12.
