Evaluate Squares II
Squaring a Number: Learn
An exponent is a number that tells how many times the base number is used as a factor. For example, 32 indicates that the base number 3 is used as a factor 2 times. To determine the value of 32, multiply 3*3 = 9.
A square or perfect square can be written as a base with an exponent that has a value of two. The term square comes from the geometric shape that has the same width and length. To find the area of the square, you can use the side length as a factor 2 times.
Exponents are written as a superscript number (for example: 34) or preceded by the caret (^) symbol (for example: 3^4).
Here is a list of the first several perfect square numbers:
02 = 0*0 = 0
12 = 1*1 = 1
22 = 2*2 = 4
32 = 3*3 = 9
42 = 4*4 = 16
