Subtracting Fractions
Subtract Fractions: Learn
How to Subtract Fractions with different denominators:
- Rename the fractions using their Least Common Denominator (LCD)
- Subtract the numerators of the fractions
- Simplify the Fraction
Example: Subtract 3/12 - 2/9. The LCD is 36, so we can rename and subtract them them as follows:
3 * 3
12 * 3
2 * 4
9 * 4
9
36
8
36
1
36
In this case, the fraction does not simplify, so 17/36 is the final answer.
