How to Add Fractions with different denominators:
- Rename the fractions using their Least Common Denominator (LCD)
- Add the numerators of the fractions
- Simplify the Fraction
Example: Add 2/9 + 3/12. The LCD is 36, so we can rename and add them as follows:
2 * 4
9 * 4
3 * 3
12 * 3
8
36
9
36
17
36
In this case, the fraction does not simplify, so 17/36 is the final answer.
