Divide Fraction by Whole Number
Divide Fractions: Learn
To divide a fraction by a whole number:
- Rewrite the whole number as a fraction with 1 as the denominator
- Divide just like any other fractions
- Simplify the result, but do not convert to a mixed number unless the instructions say to do so
Example: Divide 2/9 by 2

Just like with ordinary fractions, you can cancel factors before multiplying.
Example: Divide 2/9 by 2, but simplify the problem before multiplying, by canceling a factor of 2 out of the 2 and 2.
